This Wednesday, in Małopolska Garden of Arts, an exquisite saxophonist Nik Phelps together with the Cracovian musicians from the Stanisław Słowiński Quintet will perform live musical accompaniment to the animated films.
Nik Phepls doesn’t need to be introduced. Outstanding american saxist, who worked with such personalities as Frank Zappa, Jo Lemaire, Eric Johnson, Lou Rawls. For about ten years he has been working with Tom Waits on music projects like: „The Black Rider”, „Bunny”, „Mule” „Variations to Alice”, „Blood Money” and „Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards”.
Currently he lives in Belgium, working and giving concerts with groups The Sprocket Ensemble, JazzDelivery, The Farfoel Trio and The Cabaretti Orchestra. Since 1995 he is composing music for animated movies including CBS TV series “The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat”. In 1996 he was nominated for an ASIFA Annie Award for his music. In the same year he founded the Sprocket Ensemble - a project that combines live music and animation. Presently he is composing for such animation artist as Nina Paley, Bill Plympton, Lei Lei and Ivan Maximov.
Stanisław Słowiński Quintet
Inspired by the classics of Polish jazz and under a strong influence of the sonoric richness and complexity of modern classical music, the band’s priority is creating its own individual sound built upon the outcome of emotions within the music.
The members of the group have participated in many competitions and festivals, among others: 39th International Contest of Young Jazz Bands JAZZ JUNIORS 2015 – Grand Prix and Special Prize, 1st International Zbigniew Seifert Violin Competition – Audience Award, Nine Gates Jazz Festival Beijing, WOMAD Chile, Open’er Festival, Off Festival, Męskie Granie, Slot Art Festival. The members of the Quintet also regularly plays in Poland, most European countries, and also on other continents.
