Jury of Anima competition

Borivoj Dovniković Bordo (President of the Jury) can be placed among the pioneers of Croatian animation and is known as one of the main representatives of the so called Zagreb Animation School. The artists of Zagreb Animation School used associations, ironic and satire to laugh of the system, which became its own caricature when put together with artistic individualism. Dovnikovic’s animations are sketchy and lacking dialogues, they discuss existential themes and use music and sound in a specific way. The director is also the author of Škola crtanog film – the book which brought up many generations of filmmakers in former Yugoslavia and Czech/Slovakia.

Alfio Bastiancich -

born in Torino; a journalist and university professor specializing in cinema and television. He studied humanities and management. From 1995 to 2008 he was a consultant of RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana. He founded “Cartoons on the Bay” International Television and Cross-Media Animation Festival, and he is its director. This is one of the most important events of this type in the world. He is a member of the board of Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Torino and Media Programme-Cartoon which sets trends for strategic development in animation not only in Italy but also in the whole Europe. He founded ASIFA in Italy and he has been its president since 2009. Bastiancich is a chief editor of ‘Animafilm’ international magazine; he also wrote many articles and books about the cinema. He is a lecturer at the Course in Animation which he opened himself in Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Hollywood's 'Animation Magazine' ranked him among 15 most influential people in European animation.

 

Janusz Korosadowicz -

born in 1950 in Krakow. He is an organizer of cinema-related events. He studied geography at the Jagiellonian University. He co-founded Krakow's Film Societies 'Klaps' and 'Klatka'; he is active in other societies (from 1976 to 1996 he served various functions in the Board of the Polish Federation of Film Societies). In 1976 he received the 1st prize at the 1st National Competition of Film Lecturers in Krakow. From 1983 to 1987 he co-organized famous film seminars as a director of 'Związkowiec’ Theatre and member of the board of ‘Kinematograf’ Film Society. In 1988 Korosadowicz co-founded the Krakow Film Academy and has lectured there. He has run ‘Wrzos' art cinema in Krakow since 1989. He is an initiator and director of the National Festival of Animated Films OFAFA whose 17th edition was held this year.

Marta Pajek - born in 1982 in Kielce. Director of animated films, graphic artist, painter, video artist. She graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. She received her diploma in the Animated Film Studio of prof. Jerzy Kucia in 2005. She underwent paid traineeship at Turku Arts Academy in Finland where she worked under direction of famous Estonian animator, Priit Pärn. Apart from fine arts, Pajek is also interested in dance, theatre and psychology, which is reflected in her works. She uses various animation techniques: traditional drawing, pixilation, glass painting, video and computer animation. Snępowina/Sleepincord (2011) – Pajek’s professional debut – won her the Golden Jabberwocky at IFF Etiuda& Anima 2011. Earlier, she was awarded by the jury of Students Competition in Belgrade and won Grand Prix at Animateka in Ljubljana (Po jabłkach/After Apples, 2004) as well as the Special Golden Jabberwocky for the best student animation at IFF Etiuda&Anima 2007 (Za ścianą/Behind the wall, 2005). Pajek’s films were also shown in galleries, e.g. as part of '(re)presentation' project in Le Lieu art centre in Quebec (2005) and during individual exhibition in 'Winda' gallery in Kielce (2006).

Marjut Rimminen -

born in 1944 in Finland. In 1968 she graduated from Helsinki College of Applied Art as a graphic designer. Soon after she made her first animated commercial for Vivante bubble bath which was awarded Best Commercial of the Year at the 1972 Zagreb World Animation Festival. The same year she joined British animation studio Halas & Batchelor Animation. Since the second half of 1970s, Marjut has worked independently in Great Britain, e.g. directing and animating commercials for Finnish clients. She created a series of short films for Channel Four Television and Finnish children series Urpo and Turpo – a puppet animation made in cooperation with Liisa Helminen. She won many awards, e.g. at Tampere festival (Learned by Heart, 2009) for the best animation, special jury prize at the Krakow Film Festival and 2nd place at Los Angeles World Animation Celebration for Many Happy Returns (1996), as well as a special jury prize at Hiroshima and San Francisco festival for The Stain (1991). A retrospective of her works was shown at many festivals around the globe. She has been a member of many juries and she ran international workshops. She is a visiting tutor in Great Britain (National Film and Television School, Royal College of Art, Surrey Institute of Art and Design) and Finland (Metropolia and Aalto Universities). She was a pedagogue during 9th Krakow Animated Film Workshops and a guest at the 8th IFF Etiuda&Anima 2001.
