Roy Andersson’s commercials

Reklamy_Andersson_2

Look at the Swedish king of nonsense dealing with challenges of an advertising business! Roy Andersson does not have to be introduced. He is undeniably one of the most original European directors and a favourite of all the art-house film lovers. Exceptional, independent portraitist of the eccentric and a scandinavian lethargy. His latest film ‘A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence’ won the Golden Lion for Best Film in competition at the 71st Venice Film Festival.

Between 1975 and 1999 Andersson gave up making feature films and decided to centre upon commercials, among others for Air France, Lotto, Volvo and Citroën. To this end in 1981 in Stockholm he created his own film studio – Studio 24.

On 22. IFF Etiuda&Anima we are going to showcase a series of commercials by Swedish director. It makes an unique occasion to see a field of his artwork that is not very popular in our country. His films are refreshing for a commercial industry. They are seething with an absurd and a dark humour. Due to its unusual form they seem like an ironical commentary on the advertising persuasion.
