We\u2019re proud to present you with quite a remarkable event in the Ma\u0142opolski Ogr\u00f3d Sztuki. The Toranoko Group will present a performance of \u201e<\/em><\/strong>Muybridge\u2019s Strings and the Rhythm of Movement\u201d <\/strong>inspired by K\u014dji Yamamura\u2019s film. After the performance there will be a retrospective of the Japanese artist.<\/strong>

\"Toranoko\"
\n <\/p>\n

K\u014dji Yamamura is a well-known figure at the Etiuda&Anima Festival. He visits us for the third time: before he took part in \u201eSelf-portraits of animation authors\u201d and was a juror of the ANIMA competition.<\/p>\n

This edition there will be a retrospective of his work during which we will screen his short films: Oscar-nominated \u201eMt. Head\u201d (2002), \u201eOld Crocodile\u201d (2005), \u201eFranz Kafka\u2019s a Country Doctor\u201d (2007), \u201eA\u00a0 Child\u2019s Metaphysics\u201d (2007), \u201eSatie\u2019s Parade\u201d (2016) as well as \u201eNotes on Monstropedia\u201d (2016) \u2013 a film that takes part in the ANIMA competition this year.<\/p>\n

The retrospective will be preceded by a performance by the group Toranoko P.A.C., inspired by one of the artist\u2019s films entitled \u201cMuybridge\u2019s Strings and the Rhythm of Movement\u201d.<\/p>\n

Can time be made to stand still? Can it be reversed? Koji Yamamura\u2019s film is a meditation on this theme, contrasting the worlds of the photographer Eadweard Muybridge, who in 1878 successfully photographed consecutive phases in the movement of a galloping horse, and a mother who, watching her daughter grow up, realizes she is slipping away from her. Moving between California and Tokyo, between the nineteenth and the twenty-first century, the film focuses on some of the highpoints in Muybridge\u2019s troubled life and intercuts them with the mother\u2019s surrealistic daydreams \u2013 a poetic clash that explores the irrepressible human desire to seize life\u2019s fleeting moments, to freeze the instants of happiness.<\/p>\n
