During the 23rd MFF Etiuda&Anima opening gala we are going to display \u201cLouise in winter\u201d \u2013 most recent movie by Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Laguionie, one of the greatest masters of French animation, whose career started in 1960\u2019s.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Born in 1939, Languionie made his debut in cinema in 1965 with a short film \u201cLa Demoiselle et le violoncelliste\u201d (\u201cThe Maid and the Cellist\u201d), <\/em>that got awarded with a Grand Prix in Annecy International Animation Film Festival. This surreal story of cellist, who lets the storm loose with intensity of his music, then rescues a lady from the sea depths, has all the characteristics of Languionie\u2019s style, like painterliness and elegiac mood of the stories. Next two Linguionie\u2019s short movies \u201eL'Arche de No\u00e9\u201d (\u201eThe Noah\u2019s Ark\u201d) oraz \u201eUne bombe par hasard...\u201d (\u201eA Random Bomb\u201d) were honoured with the Golden and the Silver Dragon in the Cracow Film Festival. \u201eLa Travers\u00e9e de l'Atlantique \u00e0 la rame\u201d (\u201eRowing across the Atlantic\u201d) from 1978 was rewarded with the Golden Palm in Cannes Film Festival in 1978.<\/p>\n

In 1980\u2019s Languionie started working on full-lenght movies \u2013 so far he has made five ones. What\u2019s interesting, music for his \u201cA Monkey\u2019s Tale\u201d from 1999 was arranged by Alexandre Desplat \u2013 one of the most valued composers in Hollywood now and little-known creator of film music then. However, Languionie tends to keep off fame \u2013 in spite of numerous awards he stands outside the mainstream and concentrates on his artistic working.<\/p>\n

So far movie Languionie\u2019s \u201eThe Painting\u201d from 2011 was his the most notorious one. Incredible story of creatures living in the undone painting. There are also some social divisions caused by being more or less completed. The fraction of the Allduns comes to power and tries to exterminate the Halfies and the Sketchies. \u201cThe Painting\u201d is both visually beautiful and full of sociological, political overtones and existential questions of the Creator. The Halfies and the Sketchies goes out to find the Painter and force him to finish his piece.<\/p>\n

Five years later he created another film \u201eLouise in Winter\u201d, which made very interesting processing of Robinson\u2019s Crusoe story \u2013 the main character is an old lady on a seacoast, who has to fight for life all by herself. Her only companion were a talking dog that were voiced by the director.<\/p>\n
